Those with no experience on the Pilates apparatus who wish to join an apparatus class must complete an Introduction to Class Instruction private series as a prerequisite.
Matwork
• Mat is the foundation of the Pilates method. Our classes have roots in the classical method, and are taught with a contemporary approach, considering the latest research and findings in exercise science. We often incorporate the use of props, such as exercise bands, rings, rollers, and balls of various sizes, as well as the family of Pilates arcs. Our mat classes are appropriate for almost all clientel, even those who have little or no experience in Pilates matwork. The class will give you a firm grounding in the fundamentals common to the entire repertoire, introduce you to the beginning level exercises, and help you become familiar with the use of props. Even those who have done the matwork for many years will benefit from revisiting the roots of the work in this class. Modifications and chalenges are provided by the instructor as needed so all participants get a fantastic, and safe, workout.
• Pilates Mat Fusion is a 75 minute class desined for all levels that will stretch, strengthen and mobilize your entire body while improving posture, balance and performance in your daily life - all the while having fun doing it! You will use your whole body naturally for a complete workout with portable equipment, and the instructor will work one on one with stretch and release techniques, and monitor each individual’s form and progress. Proper breathing will also be addressed to promote total body awareness through efficient movements. The class will use many props, including the mat, foam roller, weights, stretch bands, Pilates ball and ring, mobilization disk, The Elvis, and Master Stretch Boots.
The Elvis - promotes body awareness and fluidity within the joints and limbs, therefore encouraging proper balance, control and posture. This enhances abdominal strength while simultaneously providing lower back stabilization.
Master Stretch Boots – aims to lengthen and strengthen muscles and tendons through a series of stretches and fluid movements. It also improves leg circulation, postural stabilization and provides gluteus and abdominal strengthening.
Please remember to arrive 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the Pilates Mat Fusion class with your tennis shoes/sneakers. This allows for you to properly fit your boots, set up your equipment and start class on time for a great mind-body experience.
Apparatus
Pilates invented his various pieces of apparatus as the need for new equipment arose in his studio. Each piece presents its own unique challenges, while at the same time being very assistive in learning the work. The apparatus classes are taught on the reformer, tower, and chair – sometimes just on one of these, sometimes on two or three. Our superior quality equipment is produced by Balanced Body in Sacramento, CA. Your body will be continuously stimulated and never bored – we promise!
• Beginning Apparatus is designed for those students who are new to the Pilates work, or those who have experience on the mat but have not yet experienced the apparatus. It is also an excellent choice for those with limitations who need a more basic program.
• Intermediate Apparatus moves into the realm of the more challenging exercises, while maintaining a firm base of core development.
• Introduction to the Reformer is a 5 class series is designed to teach basic Pilates principals and introduce students to Pilates work with the Reformer. Students will learn important features of the machine itself, safety guidelines, and their own personal settings for the Reformer. At the end of the series students will be able to enter a regular Beginning Apparatus class with confidence, and will be ready to learn exercises performed on the Tower and the EXO Chair. (This is a special series that is only offered when there are at least four new students to enroll in the series.)
Barre Pilates
The Barre workout is a fun, full body workout set to upbeat music. It combines the best of Ballet technique and Pilates movement priciples to provide an energizing, dance based workout that strengthens, stretches and tones the whole body.
GYROKINESIS®
GYROKINESIS® is a unique movement system which blends similar elements as found in yoga, dance, tai chi and swimming. A series of fluid and organic movements are performed in a flowing, connected manner first seated on stools, then lying on mats, and finally standing. This three-dimensional movement system works with the body in every movement plane creating greater range of motion while building strength and flexibility. Specific breathing patterns stimulate the nervous system and increase cardiovascular conditioning. GYROKINESIS® can be tailored to any age and fitness level and provides an energizing and rejuvenating workout for all.
